Natural Tooth Replacement by Periodontist Specialist

What are Implants?

Dental implants serve as a revolutionary solution for individuals seeking to replace missing teeth or secure dentures with a stable, long-lasting foundation. These titanium posts are surgically embedded into the jawbone, mimicking the natural tooth root structure. The implant requires that the bone fuse around it and, in essence, replace the “root” of the missing tooth.  On top of this screw, a crown is secured appearing like a natural tooth.

Dental implants are used not only to restore the aesthetics of a smile but also to enhance oral function and overall oral health. The procedure typically involves several steps. Once referred to the periodontist, a thorough assessment and consultation of the patient's mouth is conducted, followed by a surgical placement of the implant into the jawbone. After a healing period during which the implant fuses with the bone (osseointegration). Finally, a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture is affixed to the implant, resulting in a remarkably natural-looking and functional replacement tooth.

We like implants to replace a missing tooth because they most resemble and act like the natural or original tooth. We also use them to replace several missing teeth or even a complete dentition! They have gained popularity due to their durability, stability, and ability to improve the quality of life for those in need of tooth replacement.

They can be one of the more costly solutions, but they provide such a more natural look and feel – nearly as good as the originals! Often lasting a lifetime, implants have a very high success rate, though the crown may need replacing due to wear and tear. We use implants to secure dentures or bridges in place. They’re also helpful in preventing teeth from drifting into the gap of a lost tooth. Implants can restore bite pattern and restore the quality of your smile!

There are very few downtown Toronto dental clinics that offer an on-staff periodontist. We’re one of them!

Dr. Michael Landzberg offers his services at our Waterview location two times a week. Having Dr. Landzberg here simplifies referrals, and you can get an appointment for your implant much sooner. Often within only a week of your initial consultation.

After your dentist’s referral and subsequent consultation with Dr. Landzberg, he will place your implant. Afterwards, you return to your dentist to have the crown procedure.
